The Department of English is going to organize a One day literary festival on 6 December,2018. This State level literary festival is intended to develop in students communicative and optimist spirit to go on with the globalized clan. 



The details of the several events are furnished below


FORMAL COMPETITIONS

INK SLINGER (Report  writing)
  • ·       All Participants will be shown a video clip.
  • ·       Students need to write a report about the incident in the video clip.
  • ·       All the formal rules of report writing are needed to be followed.
  • ·       Duration of the competitions is 45 minutes.
  • ·       Words limit – 300 - 400 words.


CONFABULOR (Debate)
  • ·       Each group consists of 2 members.
  • ·       Maximum of 2 groups from each college.


BLUE BOOK (Literary Quiz)
  • ·       Each group consists of 3 members.
  • ·       Maximum of 2 groups from each college.
  • ·       A preliminary test shall be conducted.
  • ·       Top 5 teams will be selected for finale.


PANOPLY (PPT Competition)
  • ·       Maximum of 3 members from each college.
  • ·       Topic - Impact of Globalization on English Language.

MELLIFLOUS COLORADO (Poetry  Writing)
  • ·       All the Participants will be given a theme.
  • ·       Poem can be written in any form.
  • ·       Duration of the competitions is 45 minutes.


 INFORMAL COMPETITIONS

FARCE FISTICUFF (Stand Up Comedy)
  • ·       Maximum of 3 participants from each college.
  • ·       Participants can choose any topic of their choice.
  • ·       Use of bad signs and un parlimentary language is prohibited.
  • ·       5 minutes of time will be given to each participant.


PAGEANTRY (Dance Competition)
  • ·       Each group consists of 6 members.
  • ·       Song of any language can be chosen.
  • ·       Each group shall be given 5 minutes.
  • ·       Use of bad signs and item songs is prohibited.

MR & MRS PERSONALITY
  •     Maximum of 4 members from each college.
  •  Competition will be conducted in three rounds.
  •   Round -1 : Introductory round.
  • Round -2 : Talent round
  • ELIMINATION
  • Final round : Questionnaire.

JNU Admission Process 2019

Jawaharlal Nehru University will conduct JNUEE 2019 for candidates who wish to seek admission for the post graduate programmes offered by the University. Admissions to JNU start with the application form which will be released by September 2018. Candidates need to fill and submit the application forms before the last date. Only those candidates who complete the application forms successfully will be able to attend the JNU Admission 2019. after which the University will release the results. Following the declaration of the results, the University will release the merit list after which qualified candidates will have to fill and submit the admission forms on the basis of which the admissions will be offered.

JNU 2019 Eligibility Criteria

Jawaharlal Nehru University will list the eligibility criteria for the different programmes offered by the University. Candidates who wish to apply for the courses offered by the University must make sure that they qualify the eligibility mentioned for the particular course. The minimum eligibility for the undergraduate programme is 10+2 with minimum marks mentioned while the eligibility for the postgraduate programme will be 10+2+3 from a recognized university with minimum marks specified by the university.

JNU 2019 Application Form

The Application forms for the admissions to the different programme offered by JNU will start tentatively from October 2018. The University starts the admission process roughly six months prior to the admission season. Candidates must make sure to fill and submit the application forms before the deadline mentioned by the university. The JNU 2019 application form will be available only online. Candidates filling JNUEE admission form will have to start by registering themselves online for the Jawaharlal Nehru University Common Entrance Examination. They have to provide the details such as name, date of birth, address and contact details besides providing their email id,  password and photograph and signature. Candidates have to pay an application fee for JNU 2019 admissions online using Credit Card/ Debit Card/ Net Banking payment options. After completely filling JNU 2019 application form, candidates have to take a print out of the filled-in application form for Jawaharlal Nehru University Entrance Examination (JNUEE/ JNU CEE) and keep it with them until JNU admissions for the year is completed. Candidates must also note that there is no need to send a copy of the application form via post.

JNU 2019 Exam Centres

The exam centres of JNUEE 2019 include Allahabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Ghaziabad, Gwalior, Goa, Indore, Jammu, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Patna, Pune, Ranchi, Shimla, Thiruvananthapuram, Udaipur, Varanasi and Vishakhapatnam. Apart from these JNU exam centres, the central university also provides an overseas exam centre in Kathmandu for the candidates who wish to appear for JNUEE 2019 overseas. However, candidates must note that the JNU 2018 exam centre of Kathmandu is subjected to availability of a sufficient number of candidates for the JNUEE centre. Candidates must also remember that Jawaharlal Nehru University reserves the right to cancel or change any exam centre of JNUEE for any reasons. Further, candidates must also note that the JNU exam centre once allotted to a candidate will not be changed under any circumstance or any request by the JNUEE admission aspirant.

JNU 2019 Admit Card

The admit card of JNUEE 2019 will be provided to those candidates who successfully complete the application process. The Admit card will contain the details such as candidates name, date and timing of examination, a photograph of the candidate along with the exam centre details and a subject of choice. The admit card of JNUEE 2019 will be available online only. Candidates must note to keep a copy of the admit card in hand until the admissions process is completed.

JNU 2019 Exam Pattern 

JNU Entrance Exam 2019 will be conducted tentatively in the last week of December 2018. Candidates can check here the exam pattern for the different examinations. JNUEE 2019 will be conducted in the online mode. Candidates will have to answer questions (objective or subjective) in the given time. The examination pattern will differ as per the subjects the candidate is appearing for. Negative marking will be applicable only for a certain number of subjects (subjects with objective type questions).

The English department of MARIS STELLA COLLEGE. has conducted a literary fest, SPARKLIT 2018(Ingenious minds at work) on 4 September, 2018. Our students have paticpated in all most conducted and bagged prizes including the overall prize.

Sir Vidiadhar Surajprasad "Vidia" Naipaul, TC (17 August 1932 – 11 August 2018), was a Caribbean writer of Indo-Nepalese descent and Nobel Laureate who was born in Trinidad with British citizenship.[1] He is known for his comic early novels set in Trinidad and Tobago, his bleaker later novels of the wider world, and his autobiographical chronicles of life and travels. He published more than thirty books, both of fiction and nonfiction, over some fifty years.

Dr. Sr. Candy D’Cunha, Assistant professor of English at Andhra Loyola Institute of Engineering and Technology (ALIET) delivered a lecture on “Introduction to Linguistics” for the students of English Language and Literature at 2:40pm on 21-07-2018 in 1N7 Seminar Hall. She introduced the scope of Linguistics and analysed the various branches of Linguistics. She further felt that learning another language is like becoming another man. She highlighted the advantages of the study of linguistics.
 .  In the lecture she also dealt with the origin and the development of English Language. She laid an emphasis on the importance of language for effective communication.  She focused on how Linguists traditionally analysed human language by observing an inter play between sound and language. She highlighted on the branch of Stylistics that involves the study of written, signed or spoken discourse through varying speech communities, genres and editorial or narrative formats in the mass media. She has emphasised on how Research on language through sub branches of historical and evolutionary linguistics also focus on how languages change and grow over an extended period of time. The students felt greatly benefited and enlightened by her inputs on Linguistics through PowerPoint presentation. Mr. N. Ranga Babu, Head, Dept of English delivered a welcome address. Ms. B.Ramya Devi, Lecturer, Dept of English introduced Dr. Candy.  Dr. Syamala, Dr. Mamata and Dr.Subha also participated in the session. Mr. Anil kumar, Lecturer, Dept of English proposed vote of Thanks.

“Only I can change my life. No one can do it for me.”  As Carol Burnet rightly says every individual is an architect of his own life. However one needs strong conviction, confidence and motivational force to excel in life and wish to transform themselves into men for others. With the support and encouragement of the chief patrons, Rev. Fr. BalaShowri, SJ, Rector, Rev.Fr.Dr.M.Sagaya Raj, SJ, Correspondent, Rev.Fr.Dr.G.A.P.Kishore, SJ, Principal, Rev.Fr.Dr.Rex Angelo,SJ, Vice-Principal PG and Rev.Fr.Melchior, SJ,Vice-Principal, UG, the Department of English has inaugurated “Loyola English Club” for the students of language and literature. The chief objectives of ‘LEC’ are to enhance students’ learning opportunities, engage students in cooperative tasks and maximize students’ exposure to authentic English through media and books. ‘LEC’ will organize the following activities: Focused Group Discussions, Advertisement making, Literary Quiz, Case Study, Mock Interviews, Debates, Film reviews and so on.
       The inauguration programme of the ‘LEC’ began at 2.40PM. Mr.N.RangaBabu, Head, Dept of English gave a power point presentation on the aims, objectives and activities of LEC. Rev.Fr.Dr.M.Sagaya Raj, SJ, Correspondent released the logo of LEC and delivered an inaugural address in which he asked the students to make use of the activities of LEC to sharpen their linguistic skills and to improve their proficiency in English. Rev. Fr.Dr.Rex Angelo, SJ, Vice-Principal, PG and ELT Director addressed the members of the club and his greetings. He wanted every member of LEC to participate actively in all the activities and get the benefit of showcasing their talents latent in them. All the members of the Department of English participated in the program.
